EU har släppt en preliminär rapport kring smarta hem samt IoT där Apple, Google och andra företag anses vara konkurrenshämmande. Deras röstassistenter anses dominera alltför mycket.
En preliminär rapport från EU kring IoT (Internet of Things) pekar på att ett litet antal företag kan påverka konkurrensen och Apple är ett av dessa. Så här säger Margrethe Vestager, EU-kommissionens verkställande vice ordförande med ansvar för digitalisering och konkurrensfrågor:
“When we launched this sector inquiry, we were concerned that there might be a risk of gatekeepers emerging in this sector, we were worried that they could use their power to harm competition, to the detriment of developing businesses and consumers.”
“From the first results published today, it appears that many in the sector share our concerns.”
“And fair competition is needed to make the most of the great potential of the Internet of Things for consumers in their daily lives.”
Än så länge pekar rapporten inte på att Apple eller de andra bryter mot några konkurrensregler utan mer om att andra företag har anmält Amazon, Google och Apple i högre utsträckning inom området och att dessa har en alltför framträdande roll här. Enligt utsago handlar det om att det stora hindret för att utveckla produkter och tjänster är oförmågan att kunna konkurrera med dessa företag.
“These players have become the leading technology companies, and built their own ecosystems within and beyond the consumer IoT sector by combining their own, and integrating third-party, products and services into a branded consumer offering with a large number of users.”
